IN-HOME SESSION
PREPARATION GUIDE

Melbourne Newborn Photographer

I am looking forward to getting to know what you are all about.

My newborn style is gentle and candid, fully baby-led capturing the early days with your baby in the comfort of your own home. Make sure you are relaxed and enjoy the special time with your baby while I document your connection and affection.

Full tummy & a warm home

I ask you to feed your baby before I arrive, so you baby is nice and sleepy for our session. A warm bath in the morning can help relax your baby’s tummy, if gas is an issue. Please ensure your home is nice and warm, so your baby can happily stay asleep even when not swaddled in many layers.

Your home & styling

Please don’t stress for your home to be perfect for your session. Make sure the main bedroom (where I take most photos) has a neutral bed linen on (white or other neutral light coloured sheets), and your bedside tables are cleared. I may include other parts of the home depending on light and setting. Hallways, front of home or the nursery and living areas. If anything needs to be moved in those areas, I can do that on the day, so please don’t stress. I will include a few of your baby’s wraps and blankets to layer into photographs. They might be knitted by a family member, or they may simply be pretty ones in colours and patterns that you like. Blankets and swaddles are helpful to keep your baby asleep but also style the session.

What to wear

I highly recommend wearing something that makes you feel like yourself. Light colours, such as white, cream, beige, mustard, olive work very well in photographs. I would stay away from prints and patterns. Light, soft flowy tops or dresses work best. Stay away from dark blue, black or any vibrant colours such as pink or red. Dad can wear a shirt as long as it isn’t too formal (business looking), since you hang out at home you might want to roll back your sleeves. I recommend taking off any digital watches and step trackers for your session. For your baby I recommend a simple onesie (no zip). Brands like Jamie Kay or Pure Baby have gorgeous neutral onesies with a tight fit, perfect for your session. Stay away from anything that is bulky or too grown up looking. Even a simple singlet is perfect.
